The Tuckerton Fire Company No. 1 has evolved from your basic fire company to a company that is a specialized, finely tuned organization. We still train and fight fires like we always have, aggressive yet with safety always on our minds. Our motto is "Everyone Goes Home". We also have a few specialized teams that our members belong to. We are a recognized Level 2 F.A.S.T. Team (R.I.T. Team) and certified Ice and Water Rescue Teams.
Fast Team
We house one of only a few FAST Teams in Ocean county. A F.A.S.T. Team is
a
Firefighter Assist and Safety Team.
It is also referred to as a R.I.T. Team (Rapid
Intervention Team).
The
members of the FAST Team are trained for more difficult operations, including
rescuing lost or trapped firemen. This team can be called to any call that an
Incident Commander feels they are necessary, not just a house or building fire.
Ice Rescue Team / Water Rescue Team
We have an Ice Rescue team that is well equipped to handle
any ice rescue call that we may be called to. The company has 2 issued suits, a
rescue sled, and various lengths of rope. The company puts its members in the
water as often as we can, so they are accustomed to the suits and using the
equipment.
What we do (When were not fighting fires!)
The fire company is at its station every Tuesday night
throughout the year. The first Tuesday of every month is slated for business
meetings, but the rest of the Tuesdays are drill nights. A drill night may
consist of watching safety videos, hands on air-pack training, going to the Fire
Academy to do live burn training, and doing search & rescue drills in the smoke
house.
Throughout the year, we can be found around town helping our local EMS, and
local Police department in any way that we can. We are also active in town
events, from the 4th of July Festival to taking Santa around
the Borough at the holidays.
All equipment that we have, including the Chief's vehicle, (other than the 2
engines and the Rescue) are property of the fire company. Since there is no fire tax in
Tuckerton, and we receive only a yearly donation from the Borough of Tuckerton, we
rely on the kindness of the community to make donations, and attend our events, These events are:
An annual mailer that usually goes out in late March or early April
2-3 coin drops per year
Raffles
A spaghetti dinner at the Grapevine Restaurant
A roast beef dinner at the fire house (all food and labor donated by our
members)
